The total amount of rainfall here in kuching is so far this month at over 700mm is almost double the average amount for December.....we do have a wet dragon year

Some views that my Home Minister forwarded to me - Mothers who worked either full-time or part-time reported better overall health and fewer symptoms of depression than stay-at-home moms,

"Mothers with part-time jobs were just as involved in their child's school as stay-at-home moms, and more involved than mothers with full-time jobs, the investigators found. The study authors also noted that mothers with part-time jobs appeared more sensitive with their preschool children and provided more learning opportunities for toddlers than stay-at-home moms and mothers with full-time jobs.

The researchers pointed out that cost-conscious employers often hire part-time workers because they typically don't receive the same amount of benefits, such as health insurance, training and career advancement.

Since part-time work seems to contribute to the strength and well-being of families, it would be beneficial to employers if they provide fringe benefits, at least proportionally, to part-time employees as well as offer them career ladders through training and promotion," study co-author Marion O'Brien, a professor of human development and family studies, said in a news release from the American Psychological Association."

Originated from Belgium.... consider by many in Malaysia as the best beer (including myself) ... because of its easy to drink character and not bitter or very carbonated compare to the lager beer in the market.

With fruity aroma, it capture even the female market.

G Tower Hotel a MUST TRY!!

Thanks to someone.... I had the opportunity to experience the best of all... hospitality of G Tower Hotel - KL. The G Tower is considered as a Boutique hotel and the very first GREEN Building in Malaysia.

Located at the city center (intersection of Jln Ampang and Jln Tun Razak)... this hotel really provide well equiped facilities... the room is super cozy and high tech modern design...welcoming guess via online Plasma TV

GBI certified using all the green eco friendly products...room temperature are electronically automated... plus FREE HIGH SPEED Broadband.... downloading more than 1.5MB/s, Wonderful!!

The bed is super comfortable...not sure about the material but definitely not spring type.

The shower was strong and has good hot water – easy to control too so no sudden hot or cold water shock here....even making business can watch Discovery Channel.

enjoyment of the complimentary Elements Gym and sauna facilities here is a MUST!!! My stay here is really a superb and very pleasant....

A place i normally parked @ KK Sabah... The bathroom was clean and quite big compared the rest of the room, almost as big as the sleeping area of the room. There was the usual shower gel (in a dispenser) & soap and shower cap provided. There was also a flatscreen tv on the wall and a safe in the room.

But unlike the Cititel Mid Valley hotel (same company) in Kuala Lumpur, this hotel did not provide the complementary water.

Reunion Dinner Revisited

This year we had a early reunion dinner... @ Joyous Shanghai....Something I strongly believe - if a family hardly see each other during the year and then during CNY reunited, then the CNY reunion dinner hold more meaning... but if a family meets regularly throughout the year then the reunion is merely just like another gathering.

IT is important to practice and uphold certain tradition but we need to understand the meaning behind them and not just follow blindly because it had passed down for generations....for caring ... we should be keeping in touch regularly throughout the year and not once a year..

Not going home for the CNY is akin to committing a cardinal sin in Chinese Culture... but that is long long time saying. These day due to heavy globalization and the fast steps of civilisation advancement, there is plenty of legitimate reason of course....

I love the Chinese New Year decorations ... trying to upload some of the interesting deco inside megamalls in KL.

Walking about at KL, It was amazing to see so many beautiful Chinese New Year decorations in and outside shopping malls especially at the Pavilion & Midvalley...A huge "Lion" head with many smaller ones guarding the Pavilion..

Being the latest addition of megamall in KL, Pavilion has dumped in plenty of money to decorate its premise during lunar New Year of Rabbit.....

To my great surprise, things have changed rather significantly on the island compare to 10 years ago... although I could not vouch it is for the better or worse. The look is all too familiar, with tens of luncheon tables and spreads have become a common feature on the beach.

The beach is no where comparable to Pulau Sipadan or Pulau Tiga....

Pulau Mamutik is good enough with various sections of for relaxing.

Pulau Mamutik is located off the coast of downtown Kota Kinabalu. A short 30-minute breezy boat ride will bring you here. You do not really have to pack your lunch boxes from Kota Kinabalu for a decent picnic.

WhiteRoom is a bar, dance club and lounge located in KK Time Square, which lies adjacent to the central business district of Kota Kinabalu.............is a must visit beside from Firefly. We did not go for the dance club but going for the lounge downstairs...overlooking the DJs and Live Band is great for R&R.

We happened to have lunch @ Peppermint, a Vietnamese Restaurant at Karamunsing Capitol....thanks to Ricky ..our 'tour guide', driver, liaison officer...etc... cum KK colleague.

The chicken rice is deservedly known as one of the best in KK, particularly the spicy version (above). The spring rolls and wing side orders are also great. Personally I'd recommend the beef stew which is far more western palette than you'd think. It's a great place to stop for lunch and has enough range to satisfy most parties.

Firefly Revisited 2010

The first time I stepped into Firefly is sometime around Nov 2009. This is the place I like... and will always remembered. This trip may not be much happenings compared to the previous one... but the atmosphere is indeed...'wonderful'. ...especially accompany by friends, colleagues and most of all making new friends.

At the suggestion of one of our friends, ... Dinner @ Unique Seafood Restaurant. As the name indicates, the varieties of the seafood offered are uniquely extensive. You will definitely be amazed by this restaurant which looks more like an Aquarium. See this.....

There's plenty of CRAB around.... The seafood were really good and fresh from the aquariums (of course). But I still feel sorry for those sea creatures. I mean they were kept in super tiny aquariums, piling on top of each other and the way they slaughter the sea creatures was so....u know what I mean....BUT u can also order 'Dead' one too...

Price here is by the weight... and nothing can be cheaply compared to Kuching!! imagine a RM150/kg FISH!!

Quite tasty....The food was nice, but a little expensive, a nice place to bring clients, family and friends for special occasions etc. It’s clean, large and bright so you do pay a bit extra for the ambience.

Long Waited Show....

Joined my company trip to Nexus Karambunai .... it was a very nice resort, with a very beautiful beach and next to a jungle. The seawater was blue in colour, the beach was only with sand and NO Rubbish.

Well, in fact, everything was expensive there, from food to transport to activities etc.... Price can't be compared with Bali... no wonder we are planning for Bali again!

Giant

Got hold of the Borneo Sea View Wing and got the 3rd floor room. Room is superbly impressive, bed & pillow is comfy, all is clean, toilet is spacious, bathtub is wide enough & look very inviting! Balcony & room ceiling is the winning points.

Our sleep is very sound.... nice bed & plush pillows.... zzzzz

Plenty of 'Bare' Watch and definitely no Pamela Anderson in it...

Had breakfast at The Penyu, overlooking the pool.... whether is sunny & bright with a bit of clouds here & there..... What a nice Sunday for me & home minister. too bad had the very first flight back to Kuching! We love it.

Hilton Kuching offers an all-you-can-eat dim sum lunch buffet from August 11 to September 9.Diners can enjoy a satisfying meal of freshly made dim sum with friends and loved ones at this buffet....diners can also indulge in multiple deep-fried items such as Crispy Prawn Dumplings with Mayonnaise, Yam Pies, Spring Rolls with Assorted Meat, Panfried Carrot and Shanghai Dumplings.

It is mid0autumn festival (eating mooncake) and I happened to be in Sibu.....&

It is definitely a beautiful sight at night as the town square and the surrounding roads and the field outside

At the town square, all sort of giant lanterns been constructed for display by the participating private and government sectors/ corporate....errr!! That definitely don't look like Oil Palm with kennel??...

This wasn’t just opened one month ago. I think it has been probably about 1 year plus now? ........Comparing to Tenji, the food may not be as nice as Tenji. Value for money, NOPE!! Venue: Rakutei @ Crown Square Shopping Centre, Jln. Pending. But this is a place I had a great japanese dining experience, 'Best' ever in Kuching. The food is really 'satisfying'. The environment is kinda dim, so it was rather difficult to take good photos.

Living in Malaysia, and being a Malaysian, This is what I Learned:

1. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is the Malay term for the Muslim festival. This is the day Muslims in Malaysia (Brunei and Singapore also) celebrate not sure what but defined as 'Eid ul-adha' definitely like other Muslims throughout the world. For Me as a Non- Muslim in a Muslim dorminated country, Hari Raya is a time to reconcile and renew relationships with others.

2. In cities and towns like Kuching, the shopping malls and commercial centres used to hold big promotions and price discounts for festive shoppers as people purchase clothes and supplies. but this year, it seem that business 'not so hot' and the celebration is little mild compare to years back. Maybe most people just try to save or are too tight in our pocket.... like me kekekeeke!! ...plus gov. only give RM500 green 'ang pow'.

3. Good things about Hari Raya is we all get 2 days off from working..Best part of RAYA I love?... plenty of Kek Lapis, generous serving of Curry and Lemangs ....packaged in EAT ALL U CAN muslim friend raya's Open Day. ... kekeke!

Green Curry......

Mango Tree is a relaxed restaurant behind Kuching Civic Center which can easily be reach by any mean of transport in Kuching.Although the ambience borders on tourist-tacky, the restaurant is rather picturesque. Indoor goldfish ponds and an outdoor waterfall splashing into a koi pond in the gardens provide pleasing backdrops. Food here are not as good as in Thai Express or those in Brassil Thai Nudle in Bangsar, KL.

The new outlet in Bangsar is always quite packed...An Alternative To Oldtown Kopitiam Here The Papa Rich Cafe Honestly A Nice Place And Good Foods

Curry Mee....which is very oily and a bit thick in soup base. A bit spicy yet the soup is boiling hot which suits to my likings and I eat till sweating all over.

‘Nasi Lemak‘ which the rice is cook with some coconut milk which we prefer and the curry chicken is not that spicy, a bit oily (lemak) and the sambal is just nice- I never like sambal anyway. Not too spicy but eat along just pull up the taste of the dish.

Papa Rich interior design is always kinda exclusive kopitiam concept and the same with Old Town.

... Papa rich is a bit pricey, but I like the environment.

55-200mm DX lens

...I got a new lens...

The first thing you notice about both 55-200mm DX lens versions are that they're light, small, and plastic right down to its lens mount. They just doesn't seem like they're big enough to be a telephoto zoom. They’re pretty much all plastic, probably even some of the lens elements are plastic too. Even the lens mounts are plastic and these lenses remind me of the first lenses I ever owned for the Nikon system.

Images taken with the 55-200mm are sharp and have very good contrast, though neither of these things are a match for Nikon's better lenses (at it's range).

Considering the price, good performance, and probably well-matched to my D5000.

Autofocus in low light can be compromised but the AF-S has three advantages:

Silent focusing
Fast focusing
Manual override of the focus ring without having to pull a clutch or flip a switch or button

No distance scale....what to expect for something that is less than RM2K??? While I don’t recommend that anyone ever buy kit lenses, it isn’t the end of the world if you do because of budget constraints....like me.

It's like first time in 3 years Ah bern ...unable to locate some time off for Bern's Collection. The last post was somewhere more than a month ago............... and now It's near Raya time.

here is some shots from a breezing cool bali... night is hot especially @ Legian St. My E.O.T @ Bali gave us some 'exposure' to Bali's club. ...Could write a long list of Clubs and Pubs with 100's of names - instead we like to take you on the Classic Clubbers' Trail, @ Legian St. as recommended by the 'founders' of Bali night clubbing...for a new experience to see Bali after sunset.

Lack of 'China Doll' hehehehe compared to Kuching.

Bali's main areas that attract visitors also all have their night spots. The tastes are different, so for some people the nightlife has something to do with the "Happy hour" offered at many bars and restaurants, others just wake up at this time of day to get ready for the night according to the motto

the-later-the-better.

Depending on how you arranged your personal immediate future you could end up on a private party in one of the houses in the area, or if you really 'm 'a dancer', enjoy discos until 5 am.

ULUWATU RAID - Exploring BALI 5

Pura ULUWATU (Temple) is one of the several important temples is a MUST VISIT list for BALI. Its location is more remarkable than the temple itself…as it is sited on a steep cliff of more than errr…50m?? maybe…. Above the Indian Ocean…

Sunset over ULUWATU are a sight to behold. As usual, you need to be properly dressed to enter and sarongs and sashes can be rented at the entrance.

Worst part – the temple is inhabited by large number of Monkeys, who are extremely adept at snatching visitors’ belonging, including bags, cameras and eye glasses.

Now you see....
and later you may panic...

AH BERN …’bo lat’ and hand keep holding my glasses. Let AH Bern remind everyone to keep a close grip on all your belonging and stow away sun glass if possible.

One can hear the roaring wave smashing the cliff!!.

A MUST VISIT PLACE IN BALI...

There is also very scenic caves with rock formation in Uluwatu. The place is also a popular spot for surfers…. An enchanting kecak dance is held in the temple grounds at sunset but Ah bern is not interested in that.
